Karina Vargas is a reporter for KOMO News. She began her journey in the Pacific Northwest in August 2022. During her time, she’s covered news on the ice storm, Ingraham High School shooting and everyday breaking news.

Karina started her career at KVEO in the Rio Grande Valley in South Texas as a reporter and weekend anchor. She reported on the tragic mass shooting at Robb Elementary School, where 19 students and two teachers were killed in Uvalde, Texas. Other reports included the COVID-19 shutdowns, the impact hospitals were facing and major political visits to the border, including Former President Donald Trump, who traveled there to address immigration.

Karina was born and raised in Southern California and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Journalism and Communications Studies from California State University, Northridge.

After spending three years in the Texas sun, Karina is excited to be closer to home and enjoying the weather in the PNW. During her time off, you can find her trying out new restaurants, hiking and spending time with friends and family.
